Blender render crashes
Blender render crashes that are not just VRAM
Out-of-memory is common, but it is not the only failure. A timeout, a driver reset, and a missing texture all look like “Blender crashed” from the outside.
The problem
The render starts, then Blender closes, the GPU falls off the bus, or the frame stays on 0% until the OS kills it. Buying a 24 GB card does not fix a missing packed image or a Windows TDR timeout.
Cause
- VRAM overflow: CUDA illegal address / out of memory. The scene does not fit. See VRAM limits.
- Driver timeout: a single kernel runs so long the OS resets the GPU. Common on long tiles with a desktop session attached.
- Unstable driver or mixed CUDA/OptiX backends after a driver upgrade.
- Missing linked libraries, unpacked textures, or relative paths that work on one machine only.
- Running out of system RAM while the GPU is fine, especially with denoise + compositing.
Practical fixes
- Read the exact system console line. “Out of memory” and “timed out” are different jobs.
- File → External Data → Pack Resources, then retry a one-frame render.
- Lower subdivision, texture size, and hair for a fit test before changing hardware.
- If it finishes slowly instead of dying, use the time calculator and slow Cycles notes.
- Do not treat a verified benchmark PASS as proof your production file will survive. BenchMork uses a frozen scene.
Estimate local render time
Local total time = frames × time per frame. The calculator also shows a human-readable duration, an independent-machine illustration, and an optional target completion. It never multiplies frames by a public dollar rate. FARPY price comes from a live quote after upload.
When inspect still matters
FARPY inspects the uploaded .blend and returns a locked quote before start. Inspect tells you whether the file is accepted. It is not a promise that an over-limit or broken-asset scene will finish. Failed work is not charged as completed output.
Need the actual render finished?
Upload the .blend. FARPY inspects it and returns a locked quote before start. The accepted price does not increase after you approve it.
