Slow Blender render

Blender render taking forever?

If one frame takes minutes, an animation takes hours or days. The math is simple. The bottleneck is usually one GPU doing every frame in sequence.

The problem

Blender Cycles often looks frozen because it is not frozen. It is rendering one frame, then the next, on a single machine. An animation of 250 frames at 12 seconds each is 50 minutes. At 3 minutes per frame it is 12.5 hours. Overnight jobs are the same equation with worse numbers.

Plain-English explanation

Local total time ≈ frames × time per frame.

  • Sample count, resolution, and effects raise time per frame.
  • VRAM pressure can stall or crash a large scene before time even matters.
  • Your PC is occupied for the whole duration. Sleep, heat, and other apps compete with the render.
